What We Value
GC2 Living and Cultural Relevance
The Alliance Youth movement has two foundational assumptions,
or values, that serve as a filter for ministry direction...
Value 1... As a movement of disciple makers, the value
of GC2 Living is woven into the fabric of the disciplemaking environments we
desire to create. This value is birthed from two of Jesus greatest sayings.
The Great Commandments (Matthew 22:37-39): Jesus replied, Love the
Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your
mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like
it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the prophets hang on
these two commandments.
The Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20): Jesus said, All authority
in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded
you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
The Great Commandments speak of how to live...loving God and loving people.
The Great Commission speaks of what to do...make disciples. Taken together, these
statements help us create disciplemaking environments within ministry.
Value 2... Since we are a movement focused on empowering
the next generation to experience God and expand His kingdom, Cultural Relevance
is not optional. Therefore, we are committed to:
- Proclaiming Christs Message—the gospel message never changes. Even more, it is the most relevant message for the next generation.
- Developing Relevant Models—while the message never changes, methods or models do. Ministry models must present the gospel in a culturally relevant manner without losing any aspect of its message.
- Equipping Students for Significant Peer Ministry students are called and gifted by God for ministry NOW, not just in the future.
- Relationships—life change happens through relationships, so people are always more important than programs.
- The Journey—spiritual life is a journey. Students need people connecting with them at their level of spirituality and challenging them to consider the next level.
- The Priority of the Church—our youth ministries will be church-based since the church is an essential part of Gods design for His people.
